No doubt recalling the important role of women in the Anguilla Revolution, the National Council of Women presented a Gospel Concert on Whit Monday evening, May 28, in the run-up to Anguilla Day, Wednesday, May 30. The event was held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church with the participation of other Churches.
President of the National Council of Women, Ernie Hodge-Carty, expressed appreciation to the attendees for accepting the invitation to the concert. “We have carefully selected some of Anguilla’s best performers,” she said. “We have the young and the not-so-young. We are happy that you have come and this will be a true reflection of a celebration.”
Chairperson of the concert, Yolande Richardson, noted that the event was planned under the patronage of the wife of the Chief Minister, but she was unable to be present.
The rest of the programme included the following: opening prayer by Louise Franklin; Scripture Reading by Patricia Connor; solos by Caledah Hull, Sally Joseph and James Harrigan; songs by the Girls’Brigade; duets by Hulda and Laura Richardson, and Gene and Vernice Proctor; a poem and song by Patricia Adams and group; a poem by Shirley Gumbs; and a liturgical dance by a group from the New Testament Church.
The Benediction was pronounced by Rev. Menes Hodge, a representative of the Anglican Church.
