With cosmetology being a growing business in Anguilla, a new and much upgraded locally-owned service has just opened on the island. It is Hair or Nails, along with a barber service, at the lower level of the Mason Complex on theStoney Ground Road.
The sprawling saloon, owned by businesswoman, Lisa Webster, is furnished with some of the most modern equipment and products available. The enterprise, with an attached elegant spa for facial and massage treatments, is geared towards enhancing the local level of service and satisfaction provided to customers.
The saloon officially opened its doors on Thursday, June 21, with a number of appreciative persons, including specially-invited media representatives, in attendance. The ambience of the saloon is no doubt influenced by some of the attractive offerings of the luxury spas on the island. But the quality of Hair or Nails uniqueness, informal, yet business-like atmosphere, makes it both appealing and comfortable to customers. “It is just something different,” Lisa commented. “You want people to come in, sit down and relax and get whatever service they desire and be comfortable.”
She continued: “Although other places may have their local rates, there are locals who may want to go somewhere else and get something similar, but comfortable, even if it is not up to a certain level. That is one of the reasons that motivated me. It is something I thought about for a lot of months. I had to look for suppliers and employees and so far I am happy with the way things are going.”
Three of Lisa’s employees are from theDominican Republicand the other two are locals. “I must say that by the next four, or five months, I will also have a section where young ladies and young men can come in and learn the trade,” she went on. “It is a very good hands-on business. If you are able to use your hands, and be creative, it is a good way to make a living.”
Hair or Nails is the second business which Lisa owns at the Mason Complex. The other, on the top floor, is Melisa Bath & Body which carries a selection of underwear for men and women as well as gift items. Known for her resourcefulness, she also operates a company called Tranquil Villa Management which currently manages ten villas.
Lisa describes herself as hardworking and someone who is always willing to try something new. “You look at how things are going, and you try to sit down and look at ways in which you may be able to change things,” she said. “Everybody is complaining about the economy, but you cannot sit down and play dead. You have to get up and try something.”
Asked what she would like to say to members of the public, Lisa replied: “Basically, I would like to tell them to come to Hair or Nails and have a look. If you have any questions, I am sure that if I cannot answer them, one of my staff would be able to assist. We do everything you can think about except the locks [which require special handling].
“Our prices are reasonable. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am until 7 pm; Saturdays, 7 am until 7.30 pm; and Sundays 10 am until 2 pm. If someone wants service before, or after, we can work that in as well.”
