Following the escalation of crime and violence on the island, the Opposition Anguilla United Front (AUF) has submitted proposals for “A National Strategic Programme to deal with violence and violent crime in the Anguillian community”. The particular focus of the programme is “Gun violence and crime among Anguillian young men.”
The programme/document, sent to Chief Minister, Hubert Hughes, was announced at a press conference on Friday, June 15. It was released to the media by AUF Leader, Victor Banks, who was accompanied by the party’s Elected Member for Island Harbour in the Anguilla House of Assembly, Othlyn Vanterpool, and Marcel Fahie, party member, who assisted others in formulating the document.
The strategic plan was submitted to the Chief Minister along with a second letter from Mr. Banks assuring the Anguillian leader of the AUF’s full support for “Government in the campaign to address the violence and violent crime in Anguilla and its effects on the overall society.”
Both the strategic plan and the letter are published elsewhere in this edition of The Anguillian.
