Not to be outdone by the younger children at the Pre and Primary Schools, students at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School congregated at a special assembly on the grounds of Campus A on Tuesday, to participate in a varied religious and cultural programme.
The Anguilla Revolution was the main focus of the get-together at which the island’s national colours were the main attire for the occasion.
The event, at which the Principal, Mrs. Ingrid Lake, gave the welcome remarks, began with the singing of the National Song and the School Song. The other activities included choruses of praise led by Teacher Avonella Griffith; songs by the ALHCS Choir and Omari Banks; a ring game demonstration; a fashion show; a quiz competition on the Anguilla Revolution and a skit.
Two religious leaders spoke at the event. One was Pastor Philip Gumbs of the Church of God (Holiness). He reflected on several portions of the island’s history and counselled the students on positive living.
The other was Methodist Supernumerary Minister, Rev. John Gumbs, the guest speaker. Among other matters, he told the students that they were fortunate to be attending such a school, and urged them to contribute to their homeland in the spirit of the island’s 1967 Revolution. Among the ideas he left with them was this one: “If the mind can conceive it, the will can achieve it.”
The special assembly programme, which spread much cheer and camaraderie among the student body, ended with selections by Bankie Banx and closing remarks by the Principal.
