This year’s Alcohol & Drug Awareness Poster Competition for 3rd formers of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School was very difficult to judge. The entries showed that the students had a good understanding of the subject matter and expressed their ideas in a highly creative way.
The entrants tackled three different categories. The first category, ‘How marijuana can affect the brain and how this can affect learning’, was won by Eutonya Browne. The second category looked at ‘Some of the possible physical and mental health effects of abusing alcohol’ and was won by Livinscia Allen with her poster, ‘Think Before You Drink’, cleverly depicting a brain being slowly pickled in a glass of alcohol. This entry also won the ‘Overall Winner’ prize. The third category was ‘How addiction can damage the brain’. It was won by Shavony Ruan.
First runner up prizes went to Imisha Harrigan for her creative use of words: ‘Drenken Impears Speche’; and to Avalene Fleming her ‘Say no to Drugs’ message.
Second runner up prizes went to Kenvia Hodge, Samelia Connor, Veronique Rodgers, Phoebe Coppin and Roeshanda Macdonna.
Prints will be made of some of the posters which will be displayed in many of the classrooms during the next school year.
