Some 22 students at the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School walked down the red carpet on Tuesday afternoon for their graduation ceremony. The chairperson for the event was Mr. Kelvin Sutton, who graduated from that school in 2001 and recently completed a double major in science at Howard University.
Under the theme “There’s A Star in Each of Us”, Principal Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton noted that there is a spark in every graduating student and if they believe in themselves they can become a star. The principal also called on her students to remember their assembly song, “I am a Promise, I am a Possibility” and encouraged them to continue making an effort to realize their dreams and aspirations.
Delivering the feature address was Dr. Ellis Lorenzo Webster who also brought greetings on behalf of Mr. Ronald Webster. Dr. Webster commended the students on their achievements and urged them not to put a limit to their education and that they must aspire to educate themselves at the tertiary level and beyond. Dr. Webster presented each graduating student with a book on the Anguilla Revolution provided by Mr. Ronald Webster.
Following a beautiful dance performed by students in the lower grades, the graduating class graced the packed auditorium with a song composed by former teacher, Ms. Patricia Adams entitled “There is a star in each of us”.
Many awards were given to the students for their performance throughout their enrollment at the school. Valedictorian Timoya Hodge won the awards for best performance in Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The Top Male award was given to Xaviere Devonish and the vote of thanks was delivered by the salutatorian Shania Smith. Other special presentations were made to the graduating students by Mr. Sam Webster and the Honourable Mr. Othlyn Vanterpool.
