Six young artists are currently showing their work in an exhibition – “New Generation of Local Artists”- at the Devonish Art Gallery. The artists include Magueda Jackson, Jasen Hodge, Darryl Thompson, Shanecia Richardson, Navine Miller and Jelani Sasso. The work is mainly acrylic or oil on canvas and many of the paintings depict Anguilla scenes.
Magueda Jackson is currently living and teaching in St Maarten and has shown her work at previous exhibitions. Jasen Hodge says art is his hobby and although living overseas most of his paintings portray the traditional and cultural heritage ofAnguilla. Darryl Thompson has exhibited several times at the gallery. He studied art at Hartwick College in theUSwhere he gained a Bachelor of Arts degree. He works as a freelance graphic designer specializing in logos, websites and brand and image development for businesses.
Shanecia Richardson has always loved drawing and sketching and took her first art classes in 2005. She is currently a student at theAniArtAcademywhere she is enjoying her studies. Navine Miller has just returned to Anguilla having earned a degree in visual and entertaining arts at the Miami International University of Art and Design. She is currently Head of the Visual Arts Department at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School. Jelani Sasso is an Anguillian living and working inNew Jersey. He enjoys art as a hobby.
Courtney Devonish, owner of the gallery, said that he is happy to see more artists including two who are exhibiting for the first time. He said that he wants to encourage the young artists and to get Anguillians acquainted with art.
