A United Kingdom Judge, with expertise in Bankruptcy, has been sworn -in as Acting High Court Judge in Anguilla by His Excellency Governor Alistair Harrison.
The Governor administered the Oaths of Allegiance and Due Execution of Office to Acting Judge, Justice Geoffrey Wilfred Jacques, in the Executive Council’s Chambers on Friday, April 13. He was appointed to Anguilla for one month bythe Chief Justice and the Judicial and Legal Services Commission of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
In welcoming Justice Jacques to Anguilla, the Governor hoped that amidst his hard work he would have an opportunity to enjoy the delights of the island and wished him a pleasant stay. He commented that Mr. Jacques would be assisting the Resident Judge with the volume of work before the Court.
Justice Jacques said he had never been to Anguilla before, and that he looked forward to assisting the Court with its legal work
He was called to the English Bar in 1963 and served at Chancery Chambers at Lincoln’s Inn from 1966, after pupilage, until 1996. He then became Deputy Registrar in Bankruptcy and in 1998 was appointed fulltime Registrar in Bankruptcy. He said that Registrars in Bankruptcy were doing almost 100% of bankruptcy work coming before the High Court inLondon.
“I have had fifteen years as a Judge doing bankruptcy work which I think is the main work I am here for,” Justice Jacques added.
