The Department of Public Administration has just completed a two-day Induction Programme for new and continuing teachers at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School and the six Primary Schools.
The two half-day sessions were held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre on Tuesday, April 10, and Thursday, April 12. The induction was organised to familiarize teachers with the Anguilla Public Service, its operations, policies and procedures, and to highlight some of the processes and guidelines of the different systems of which teachers form a vital part.
A press release issued by the Department of Public Administration stated that the presentations were tailored to meet the specific needs of the teachers, and included topics such as Understanding Government; Goals of the Anguilla Public Service; Chains of Commands; Compensation and Benefits of working in the Anguilla Public Service; Mobility and Training; Communication with Stakeholders’ Pension Benefits, and the Importance/Benefits of Social Security.
It is anticipated that after the exercise, teachers would have a better understanding of the Anguilla Public Service and that they would continue to feel that they made the right decision when they joined the Anguilla Public Service.
“Research has shown that employee induction is an important part of every organisation,” the release further stated. “It is usually the first step of employee training and gives the organisation an opportunity to create a positive, strong impression in the minds of the new employees.”
The facilitators for the sessions were Ms. Aurjul Wilson, Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of Home Affairs; Mrs. Kathleen Rogers, Permanent Secretary, Public Administration; Mrs. Lana Horsford-Harrigan, Director, Human Resource Management; Ms. Aunika Webster-Lake and Mrs. Charmaine Rogers, Deputy Directors, Human Resource Management; Mrs. Charissa-Ann Busby, Administrator, Pension Fund; Mr. Ash Hodge, Public Relations Officer/Human Resource Management, Social Security; and Ms. Denise Buchanan, Benefit Officer, Social Security.
