An integral part of the work of any Optimist club is organizing, or participating in, service projects which benefit the community. On Saturday, April 07th2012, as part of its community outreach, the Optimist Club of Anguilla repainted the interior of the grade six room of the Morris Vanterpool Primary School (MVPS).
The Club was contacted by the president of the Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) of the MVPS about the need for the classroom to be repainted and about the lack of the financial means to do so. The Optimist Club adopted theMorrisVanterpoolPrimary Schoolmany years ago and responded positively to the request. The Community Service Committee, led by the Chair Mrs. Maria Hughes, organized the activity. Optimists and friends of Optimist gathered from 7:30 am on the Saturday morning to begin painting and by noon the job was completed.
The beautiful blue colour was selected by Teacher Renee Wills, the grade six teacher of MVPS. The Optimist Club of Anguilla hopes that the students will enjoy learning in their newly-painted classroom.
The Optimist Club would like to thank all members and friends that came out to paint and offer their support. The Club is best known for its practical service projects and the many and varied youth-serving activities that they are involved in. By believing in young people, and empowering them to be the best that they can, Optimists do ‘bring out the best in children’.
