School children in Anguilla have been given an opportunity to learn about the history of boat-racing which represents a substantial portion of the cultural life of the island.
That opportunity has been afforded by First Caribbean International Bank which purchased and donated a supply of the boat-racing DVDs produced by David Carty. He recently developed his book, Nuttin Bafflin, into a movie which is now available on the island.
The DVDs were presented by Courtney Morton, Customer Service Manager at the Bank. He stated that First Caribbean International Bank was always looking forward to opportunities to assist the community, particularly the development of the youth. He said the Bank was grateful to the Education Department and the teachers for allowing it the opportunity to do something worthwhile in the community.
Asked why the Bank had chosen to give the particular gift to the schools, Mr. Morton replied: “It is very important as it deals with the history of boat-racing. It tells how we develop the sport from the earlier years to what it is today.”
The Nuttin Bafflin DVDs were received on behalf of the Primary Schools by the Principal of theMorrisVanterpoolSchool, Celestine John.
“On behalf of the Education Department and the Principals, teachers of students of the Primary Schools inAnguilla, we would like to thank First Caribbean International Bank very much for this contribution towards the education of our children,” she said.
“We can assure you that this video will go a long way towards helping our students to understand our history. It will be used in a positive way to influence the children’s education. We look forward to your continued support as we strive for the youngsters ofAnguilla.”
