A representative group of Cap Juluca’s employees, in particular, the Juluca Cares, of the Juluca Health & Wellness Committee, through their project, Hope, have made a very worthwhile contribution to handicapped former worker, Randy Hodge, on Tuesday this week.
Randy, who served as a Bellman at the resort, was severely injured in a shooting incident outsideCarnivalVillageon the night of February 12. He was treated inPanama, but remains paralysed.
On Tuesday he was the recipient of a cheque for US$12,116.07. According to Ann Marie Letang, one of Cap Juluca’s employees, who presented a fund-raising report, the money was raised from the sale of tickets for a recent benefit concert; food and refreshment sold during the Cap Juluca-organised event; and from various donations. The cheque was presented to Randy’s mother, Ermine Hodge, by members of Juluca Cares Committee.
In a statement, read on her behalf by Reservations Manager, Patricia Bryan, Ms. Hodge expressed thanks to all for their support. She disclosed that during the period her son spent inPanama, his expenses amounted to some US$65,000. The mother said that Randy’s family members were now constructing an extension to their dwelling house to facilitate him. The structure, estimated at US$43,000, will include special railings and other facilities. She has acknowledged the supply of free labour and material from a number of persons.
Cap Juluca’s General Manager, Bernard Sarme, said he was delighted to see Randy in good spirits. “There is one thing you can count on, Randy, Cap Juluca, and all the people here, will support you. We haven’t forgotten you. Even though you have a hard road ahead, you can count on us.” Mr. Sarme told him.
Human Resource Manager, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, said that some time in May, the Juluca Cares Committee would hold a dinner towards raising funds to assist with Randy’s rehabilitation. She was grateful to all Julucans for their love and support shown to Randy and the feelings of hope they shared with him.
Meanwhile, Randy, who is hopeful that he will eventually overcome his plight, expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Cap Juluca’s staff, and all persons inAnguilla, for their support and good wishes.
