The Anguillian
Dear Sir:
CHIEF MINISTER AT IT AGAIN
The Chief Minister is at it again. He cannot let a month go by without castigating the Governor and the British Government with outrageous charges, obviously aimed at distracting people from his own failures to lead.
Now he, along with his accolyte, “Advisor” Jerome Roberts, again asks CARICOM to send a delegation to investigate how the Governor is seeking “to cripple the economy” ofAnguillaand “undermine my administration”. They already had such an investigation last October. But their report was never revealed, and some observers believe it’s because it did not set forth what Hughes wanted.
But what is worse, our illustrious leader is not satisfied with simply influencing the delegation ahead of time with his distorted views. He also wants to “stack the deck” by confining any delegation to meeting only with him and the “Anguillian community” which would be a “major rally” he will organize, obviously made up of his followers.
Hughes wants them to look into the alleged “tensions” on the island (which, if they exist, he created) and not talk to the
Governor about Hughes’ charges against him “because the Governor is incredulous.” So much for due process and being open, fair and balanced.
What is amazing is that, although Hughes constantly casts aspertions at the Governor, he (the Governor) either does not respond to them or “turns the other cheek”. When told about Hughes’ most recent tirade, he simply says he would look forward to meeting with the delegation as he did before. But he also said that he would like to see their earlier report. Most people would too. And the question is: Where is it?
