AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do, headed by Chief Instructor Gregory A. Permuy (4th Dan), opened the doors to its new Do-Jang (training hall) mid February with an exciting Competitive Sparring Workshop conducted by Senior Master, Ruben Suarez (8th Dan), assisted by his student two-time World Champion, Julio Carlos (3rd Dan). The workshop was attended by some 14 black belts, including visiting Instructor from Puerto Rico, Mr. Gato Gato, as well many of the students of the AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do Association.
Master Suarez was on Anguilla from February 16th to 20th, 2012. On Thursday (16th) he conducted a special Black Belt class during which he worked on many of the techniques and patterns of ITF TaeKwon-Do. On Friday (17th) the training was directed more toward techniques of kicking and conditioning.
The Competitive Sparring Workshop was held on Saturday (18th) from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and continued after lunch, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Master Suarez explained many of the exercises, techniques and strategies of sparring, which provided Mr. Carlos with the ability to gain two world championships in sparring. During the afternoon session, participants had the opportunity to see Mr. Carlos in action as he took turns sparring with everyone in attendance.
Master Suarez spent much of his stay in Anguilla working with instructors Gato Gato and Permuy, who practiced and clarified doubts with regard to their respective patterns. The well respected ITF TaeKwon-Do Master also shared, with Gato Gato and Permuy, some of the programs he s implemented at his Do-Jang, Queens TaeKwon Center, and made several recommendations so they can continue to raise the standard of TaeKwon-Do.
Mr. Permuy would like to express his sincere thanks to Senior Master Ruben Suarez, on his 2nd visit to Anguilla; and his student, Julio Carlos, for taking the time to come and work with the students of AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do. And also a big thank you to Mr Gato for taking the time to come and train with us. “Mr Gato Gato has been to Anguilla several times to conduct TaeKwon-Do workshops with us, however this was his first time here as a student,” said Mr Permuy.
The AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do Association would also like to express its sincere thanks to all participants for making the effort to learn from such an elite Master and World Champion. Thanks are also extended to Ira and Bonnie Bloom for their kind financial contribution, and to Gulf Insurance Ltd. Agency for the generous donation of all new mats for the new Do-Jang.
