The keenly-contested Ashley Brooks’ Road Relay races, mainly for the Primary Schools, was dominated by the Adrian T. Hazell School which placed first in the bicycle race for girls and boys and the relay race for girls.
The relay events, on Sunday, March 11, now in their 18th year, were preceded by a brief opening ceremony chaired by Deputy Director of Sports, Rollins Richardson. Managing Director of Ashley & Sons, Connie Brooks, said her late father, whose birthday was on that day, started the race following the passing of the late Colin Bynoe, known to have been an avid sports athletic organiser in Anguilla.
Ms. Brooks said she had been impressed by the hard practice of the competing teams, during the previous week, and thanked them for their participation.
The results in the bicycle race were as follows – Girls: Adrian T. Hazell School, first; Valley Primary School second; Vivien Vanterpool School third; Morris Vanterpool School fourth; Orealia Kelly School fifth; and Alywn Allison School sixth. Boys: ATHPS 1st; VPS 2nd; VVPS 3rd; MVPS 4th; AAPS 5th and OKPS 6th.
In the Girls Road Relay, the results were: ATHPS 1st; OKPS 2nd; VPS 3rd; Central Christian School (CCS) 4th; VVPS 5th; and MVPS 6th; and in the Boys Road Relay, the results were: VPS 1st; OKPS 2nd; ATHPS 3rd; VVPS 4th; MVPS 5th; and CCS 6th.
There were also Girls and Boys Relays for students of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. The following were the results for the Girls: Yellow House 1st; Maroon House 2nd; Purple House 3rd; Orange House 4th and Pink House 5th. The results for the Boys: Purple House 1st; Maroon House 2nd; Yellow House 3rd; Pink House 4th; Orange House 5th; and Purple House 6th.
