Viceroy and the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service have worked together to have the first hydrant system on the island, a necessary provision at any hotel resort.
Chief Fire Officer, Martin Richardson, and Fire Service Coordinator, Duson Dupigny, joined Viceroy’s Chief Engineer, Tony Selvaraj, on an inspection tour, on Wednesday, of theproperty’s three water hydrant systems.
“Viceroy now is the only hotel on the island that has this system,” Mr. Richardson said. “If we had a fire at another location, the only equipment we need to bring here would be hose and nozzles. The system comprises stand pipes and sprinklers at some locations and at every third villa there is a hydrant. In addition, there are smoke detectors at all buildings so all the security features here are top notch.
Mr. Selvaraj stated: “The main thing good about the system is that it is pretty much automatic. None of us has to be here because if there is a fire, the sprinkler will operate on its own, controlling the fire up to 96% (with the other 4% taken care of by another component of the system operated manually). That is pretty much like in any industrialcountry, and it is a minimum requirement in any hotel inCanadaand theUnited States. Everything we have here is toMiamiDadeCountyspecificationsand the building is concrete as well.”
Several department staff members at Viceroy have been trained and certified up to basic fire-fighting level, and will undergo refresher training in November.
