Optimist Club Organises Successful Essay Contest 2012

Optimist Essay Contest Winners L - R: Gesel Hodge, Jordia Hodge and Kevin Thompson

The Optimist Club of Anguilla recently held the 2012 Optimist International Essay Contest. Participants were required to write an essay on the topic “How my positive outlook benefits my community”. The local competition was judged by the Keri Horsford, Rhina Meade and Farah Mukhida.

Winning the top three positions were Gesel Hodge in first place, Jordia Hodge in second and Kevin Thompson in third. The winners were all presented with medallions, on February 17, 2012 at the Optimist Club of Anguilla’s Oratorical Competition, and will also receive gift vouchers valued at EC$200, EC$100 and EC$50 respectively.

 

Gesel’s winning essay will be sent toJamaicafor entry in the Optimist International Caribbean District Contest along with winning entries from other Optimist Clubs in the District.

 

The Optimist Club of Anguilla has been participating in the Optimist Essay Contest for a number of years and has been active in the community since 1995.

 

The O/C Anguilla is best known for its practical service projects and the many and varied youth serving activities that it is involved in. By believing in young people and empowering them to be the best that they can, Optimists do ‘bring out the best in Children’.
