Keeping the youth and their future development in mind and mindful of the fact that students are elated to see themselves being published in a positive manner, the Education Welfare Officers implemented a picture poster project to recognise students with excellent school attendance as a means of encouraging all students to improve their attendance at school.
A raffle was conducted for the students with excellent school attendance for the first ten weeks of the Michaelmas Term for the school year, 2011-2012. One winner for each school was selected. The students from Campus A and B were randomly selected.
Posters with pictures of the winners and school attendance quotations are displayed at the schools and a collage can be seen on a billboard outside the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School- Campus A with representatives from all schools and a poem entitled, “Our School Promise.” Students will be encouraged to adhere to this school promise which will help them to remain dedicated, attentive and respectful at school.
On a weekly basis the Education Welfare Officers continue to visit the island’s public primary and secondary schools to monitor and encourage excellent school attendance while making the necessary home visits and referrals on students’ behalf. We create incentives for excellent attendance on a regular basis to encourage students to improve and maintain excellent school attendance.
As Education Welfare Officers we will continue to ensure that all students entrusted in our care have the opportunity to attend school daily in a secure and caring environment while assisting families when necessary to maintain the harmonious relationship between the schools and homes.
We take this opportunity to encourage all parents to allow their child or children to attend school daily in a timely manner so that they can benefit from the free education that is being provided for them.
