On Tuesday 24th January 2012, the inmates and staff of Her Majesty’s Prison received a special treat when they were visited by international reggae artist Gramps Morgan as well as our local music stars Bankie Banx and Omari Banks, all of whom gave a short performance for the inmates.
Shariffa Wallace, Rehabilitation and Development Coordinator said “We are thankful and appreciative of the time taken by Gramps Morgan, Bankie Banx and Omari Banks to share their musical gifts with us and for the uplifting spirit that was brought to our establishment on Tuesday morning. This was a fantastic opportunity for the prisoners to meet such a high calibre artist and international musical celebrity as Gramps Morgan. We were very impressed with his willingness to come to HM Prison during his stay onAnguillaand his compassion and interest in the wellbeing of our prisoners was very heartfelt. As always, we are grateful to Bankie for remembering us and his interest in supporting our activities, and also to Omari Banks who also shared his amazing talent with us.
The Superintendent of Prisons Mr Conrad Gumbs, also commended the artistes for their interest and support, and thanked Bankie Banx for his ongoing commitment to helping the Prison Department.
The selection of songs by Gramps, Bankie and Omari reflected their efforts to inspire the prisoners, strengthen their spirit during their incarceration and give them encouragement and hope for their future. The performance was well received by the prisoners and staff of HM Prison, and the artistes were presented with certificates of appreciation by Ms Wallace for their efforts to promote love and harmony and unite people through their music.
