Cap Juluca marked its 24th anniversary last week, by celebrating the Resort’s latest accolade and paying special tribute to 82 of its longest-serving employees, who are members of the Juluca Jubilee Club.
Speaking at a Juluca All Staff Gathering on 16th January, new General Manager, Bernard Sarme told the more than 300 Julucans in attendance that it was an honour for him to join such a loyal and dedicated team and he was proud to announce that Condé Nast had just named Cap Juluca the winner of its 2012 Award of Excellence as “The Most Romantic Hideaway” in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific.
The anniversary celebrations continued on 17th January with the hosting of a special reception in honour of the members of the Juluca Jubilee Club. In a
special toast to these long-serving Julucans with 20 or more years of service, Mr. Sarme and Director of Human Resources, Phyllis Fleming Banks applauded them for their hard work and dedication in laying the foundation of the now world class resort. “As we celebrate the 24th anniversary of the opening of the first Villas, we pause to salute those of you who have provided the loyal and extra-ordinary service on which Cap Juluca thrives and survives,” Dr. Fleming-Banks told the Julucans. It is your tenacity and unwavering commitment to excellence which continue to create experiences beyond expectations here at Cap Juluca, she said.
During the celebrations, special tribute was paid to Landscaper, Albert Connor, who has the distinction of being the longest-serving Julucan. Albert, who was honoured for his 25 years of service, was part of the original team hired in 1987 prior to the opening of the villas in 1988. Also part of that original group and still in active service are Wilson Fleming (Water Sports Supervisor), Gwendolyn Griffith (Sous Chef), Wayne Romney (Restaurant Supervisor), Uton Rogers (Assistant Purchasing Manager) and Rhona Richardson (Housekeeping Supervisor).
Cap Juluca, which opened the doors of its first villas in January of 1988, has been consistently named among the Caribbean and the World’s best resorts. The 82 members of the Juluca Jubilee Club account for about 22% of the Juluca work force.
