NBA’s Branch Manager, Marisa Gumbs, said that during November the bank had been promoting colon cancer awareness. “As part of that, we decided to broaden our involvement to have a health fair where persons can get tested for blood pressure, blood sugar, prostate problems, cholesterol and HIV,” she stated.

“We partnered with MASA, held a health fair before, so that we can bring this great event down to the Western end of the island because I think this is the first time for such an activity here. We are more used to these fairs in The Valley. We decided to utilise our grounds and have the fair here. Most people come to the bank on Friday and this would give them an opportunity to be part of this.” Speaking on behalf of MASA, Managing Director, Donald Curtis, said it was the fourth in a series of free health clinic in which his company had been involved during the year. He was pleased that some fourteen students from the Medical School had volunteered to provide their services to the community. He also saw their involvement as a way of gathering personal experience, while working with nurses from the hospital who coordinated the effort. “It s a good thing for Anguilla and for people to get their health checked,” Mr. Curtis added. |
