The event was called “Diabetes Night Light”. Every time the participating persons travelled around the track they placed a candle along the area in tribute to diabetics.

It was the start of a series of awareness activities which involved both adults and children. The involvement of the youngsters signified that they too were at risk of becoming victims of diabetes. President of the Association, Nurse Lynette Rogers, said Monday’s activity was in support of persons living with diabetes and as a mark of respect to those who died from the disease. Wednesday evening saw a presentation on the management and care of diabetic patients by Dr. Sherlon Richardson (at St. Mary’s Anglican Church). Thursday was visiting day for shut-in diabetics; Friday was set aside for visits to schools; and a walk was arranged for Saturday (from Ronald Webster Park to Shoal Bay), climaxing with breakfast on the beach. |
