A one-week training session for Anguillan athletes was conducted by an elite Canadian track and field coach, Ms. Carla Nickels. She covered areas such as sprinting, weight lifting, hurdling and javelin throwing. The athletes were all enamored with the variety of activities that were shown to them as they quickly learnt new warm up routines and further refined the various disciplines.

Ms. Nickels was most impressed with how quickly the athletes were able to assimilate the skills necessary for hurdling.
Ms. Nickels worked with some of the athletes before: Keron Rogers, Akeem Mussington and Arthur Ward. She was most delighted with the plethora of talent that she has seen and hopes that everyone continues to work hard in the future.
The Anguilla Amateur Athletics Federation would like to express its gratitude for the assistance offered by Coach Nickels. Her presence has brought about a dramatic improvement as regards the techniques of many of the junior athletes. It is hoped that Coach Nickels would be able to return to Anguilla later next year to conduct a similar training session.
