| As part of a week of activities, in observance of its 40th Anniversary, LIME Anguilla (formerly Cable and Wireless) has donated US$5,000 to the Princess Alexandra Hospital to finance the cost of four of a number of diagnostic machines needed at the health institution. |
The cheque presentation was made on Wednesday, October 26, by LIME Anguilla’s General Manager, Mark Romney. The donation was presented to Angeline Henry, Stores Supervisor and her assistant, Jane Carty. Both of them were commended by Mr. Romney for their tenacity and commitment to spearhead a campaign to raise the necessary funds for the equipment.
Mr. Romney stated that the desired goal was to purchase up to 15 diagnostic units to be installed on every ward. “Just to get us going, we are providing the funds to secure four of those units,” he went on. “However, we will see the project through by purchasing all the units. So I assure you that the other eleven units will be coming by the April time periodof next year at the very latest. If we can do it before, we will do so; but this will be the LIME project.” The LIME Anguilla General Manager further promised that at Christmas time the company would adopt the meals programme at the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home as part of LIME’s random acts of kindness. He said there would also be a special treat for Nurses. Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Health Authority, Ralph Hodge, who gave the Vote of Thanks, said the gesture by LIME was a very kind one which he hoped other organisations would emulate. “The gesture is more significant than Mr. Romney would have stated on the surface, because if you are going to provide $5,000 for four units, by the time this project ends the company would have provided something like $25,000,” he observed. He added, however, that LIME was known to come to the rescue of the Anguillian society in very significant ways.
