The Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service is celebrating Fire Prevention Week for the third consecutive year and so far it has been a major success, Fire Prevention Coordinator, Duson Dupigny, reported.

The October 9-15 observance commenced with a service at the Central Baptist Church at Rey Hill.

“Protect your Family from Fire” is the theme of Fire Prevention Week with the main focus on the protection of children. As part of that message, personnel from the Fire and Rescue Service undertook to visit the various schools, on the island, to speak with the children and to encourage them to convey to their parents and older siblings the importance of making the home a safe place.

Mr. Dupigny observed, in a statement to the media, that too often persons install fire protection systems in business places while leaving homes unprotected. He stated that a fire prevention campaign would be mounted in due course to address the situation to minimise fire-related emergencies.
