Radio Anguilla’s Information Officer, Felicia Hennis, has struck a mark of excellence not only as a noted and interactive participant in a recent journalism course, but by being the proud winner of a feature article and the prizes it offered.

The LIAT- Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) sponsored Media Workshop was held in the British Virgin Islands in July this year and attracted participants from a number of other regional islands. The writing competition was part of that course.

Johnson JohnRose, CTO’s Barbados-based Communications Specialist, sent the following email to Ms. Hennis:

“Congratulations. Your feature, BVI Another Caribbean Gem, has been selected as the best feature on BVI among those written by those who attended our recent course in the British Virgin Islands. Yours was a compelling and riveting piece which captured the soul of these beautiful islands. Your style also demonstrated how intently you listened and how much you learned during the course.

“As the winner, you will receive tickets for two to any LIAT destination, compliments LIAT, a week-long holiday for two in the BVI and a plaque from CTO. I’m currently in discussion with the BVI Tourist Board regarding a date for presentation of the award.

“In addition to these prizes, I will enter your piece for the CTO Journalism Awards which are presented during Caribbean Week in New York in June. And LIAT will publish it in its next issue of the inflight magazine.

“Congratulations once again and keep up the good work.”

Replying, Ms. Hennis wrote:
“It is really an honour to have won best feature article among my peers and I’m truly honoured to have my article submitted in a bigger competition, on an international stage, for the CTO Journalism Award to be held in New York next year. For Mr. JohnRose, CTO’s Communications Specialist, even to suggest entering my article on such an international stage says to me that I did a superb job. Just to know that my name and my article will be among those of other veterans in the field of Journalism, is really a blessing. I’m also pleased that my article will be published in LIAT’s upcoming magazine and will be read by many persons from the region and afar.”
