In an effort to provide practical day-to-day experience of the work undertaken by the Department, Mr. Kelly participated in all elements of its operations. He conducted curfew checks, home visits and supervision sessions. He was charged with developing Supervision and Quarterly Plans for probationers. Mr. Kelly attended Court, in-house workshops and internal and external meetings which were aimed at providing him with detailed insight of the Department and its processes and procedures. While here he also worked at Zenaida Haven and was able to meet with the Commissioner of Social Development, Mr. Sanford Richardson, and the Superintendent of HM Prison, Mr. Conrad Gumbs.

According to Mr. Kelly, it was a great learning experience working at the Department of Probation, and he commended the dedication and commitment of staff whom he described as working “beyond the call of duty.” He also said that the knowledge he gained while working here, would be beneficial for him in setting up similar programmes for the young people in Montserrat.

Prior to his departure, Mr. Kelly expressed his sincerest thanks to the staff of the Department of Probation on behalf of the Government and people of Montserrat.
