| Children supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month |
The activities are geared towards raising national awareness by providing information on how breast cancer can be prevented and treated. The programme features a number of educational/awareness radio tips by children from various schools throughout the island, as well as newspaper articles and radio and television appearances by breast cancer survivors. The highlight of the month is the “Juluca Walk of Hope” slated for Thursday, 13th October at 4:30 p.m. On that day, Julucans will join with employees and breast cancer survivors and supporters from across the island, including organisations like the Health Authority, Digicel, Lime, the Government of Anguilla and the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association. Walkers will meet at the North Hill Junction near the C&N Jumbo Plaza and move through North Hill and the Rev. C. Leonard Carty Road into The Valley, past the St. Mary’s Anglican Church and returning to the North Hill Junction via the George Hill Main Road. The Juluca Health and Wellness Committee is inviting other organisations/individuals to join in the Walk of Hope by registering at the Health Promotion Unit at the Primary Health Care Building in The Valley (497-2540) or at the Human Resources Office at Cap Juluca (476-2004). The Cancer Awareness Steering Committee, an initiative of the Health Promotion Unit of the Health Authority, has been partnering with a different business each month, since June of this year, to build awareness of the various types of cancer, to provide a network of support for persons affected by cancer and to encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. Cap Juluca has sponsored the activities for October Breast Cancer Awareness and, in addition to the national awareness building, is continuing its own in-house educational/awareness building for staff and will again be partnering with Women with Heart and Hughes Medical Centre to provide free mammograms for several of its employees. |
