| There were 19 crimes classified as serious recorded by the Police in Anguilla during the period September 14-21, an increase over the figure of the previous week when there were 13. |
| Nine of the 19 cases were burglaries at Webster Park, Cove Road, Rock Farm, South Hill, The Quarter, Island Harbour, Cauls Bottom and The Valley. The stolen items included copper wire, gasoline and diesel, a bicycle, cell phone cases, alcohol beverages, tobacco, a cigarette lighter, an ipod and a sum of money. The remaining 10 cases were thefts committed at Blowing Point, Long Ground,South Hill, Corito, Stoney Ground and The Valley. Among the stolen items were a camera, DVD player, a bicycle, galvanize sheets, a bunch of bananas, palm trees, coconut trees, a flash drive, a passport and money. There were nine arrests as follows: three males for criminal trespass, four for possession of cannabis, one male for importation of cannabis and another male on a default warrant. There were 8 traffic accidents, one of which resulted in the death of Figueroa Gonzalez (of Stoney Ground), at George Hill on September 17. Magistrate’s Court Report A number of cases were heard in the Magistrate’s Court during the period September13-16, which resulted in fines amounting to $14,500. The cases were as follows: R. F. of North Valley pleaded guilty of driving without due care and attention. He was fined $2000 to be paid by December 12 or one month in prison. I.C. of Blowing Point pleaded guilty of driving when not covered by a policy of insurance. He was fined $3,000 to be paid by March 30, 2012 or one month in prison. He also pleaded guilty of driving without a licence and was reprimanded and discharged. R.R. of Tackling Estate pleaded guilty of driving without due care and attention and was fined $2,500 to be paid by January 13, 2012, or two months in prison. Irvin Phillip, of Deep Waters, pleaded guilty of permitting someone to drive an unlicenced vehicle and was fined $1,000, to be paid by October 30 or one month in prison. Aldine Whyte, of Island Harbour, pleaded guilty of driving an unlicenced vehicle and was fined $500 to be paid by November 18 or one month in prison. Joslyn Heyliger pleaded guilty of driving without due care and attention and was fined $2,500 to be paid by January 13, 2012 or one month in prison. N. L. of Stoney Ground pleaded guilty of obstruction and was fined $500 to be paid by October 31 or one month in prison. He also pleaded guilty of playing amplified sounds and was remanded and discharged. The Court was presided over by Magistrate Keithly Benjamin. |
