The programme kicked off with presentations by Nutritionist, Mrs Vernice Battick who introduced the participants and leaders alike to the importance of healthy eating and Principal of the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School, Mrs Tracelyn Hamilton who spoke about the importance of reading. Both sessions were very informative and interactive. From then on the children were involved in physical and language games, topical crafts, singing, reading aloud and reading logs as well as being introduced to basic recipes for healthy snacks and drinks. Field trips reinforced various aspects of the theme. At Cuisinart Resort and Spa, Dr. Resh and Rohan provided a tour and lesson on the hydroponic farm facilities at the hotel and Bar Manager, Gloria Leveret demonstrated the making of smoothies and other health conscious drinks. Coach, Ian Connor involved the participants in physical activity (exercise and drills) during a visit to the Louis Price Gym and the beach was the perfect location for more physical activity.

The team spirit of partnering fuelled this programme with a variety of enrichment activities, making it an informative and enjoyable event for the participants. Much appreciation is due to Lee Brooks of Ashley & Sons Supermarket, Nature Gardens, Sunset Homes, Social Security Board, ANGLEC, National Bank of Anguilla, Cuisinart Resort & Spa, Pepper Steppers, Louis Price Gym, Vernice Battick, Ian Connor and Tracelyn Hamilton. Without the energy and the contribution of time from the staff of the Anguilla Library Service, Jiva Niles, Merlika Fleming-Connor, Courtney Mills, Shauna-Kae Lake, Marla Hughes, Rosheena Bryan, Artesha Richardson, Giselle Bartlette, Mia Hughes, Diane (Bobbi) Samuel and Roshica David it would not have been possible to supervise CLASP participants in an efficient manner. Parents are also commended for their continued support. All the various forms of assistance keep the wheels of this programme turning. – Press Release |
