Kelbert Walters, one of Anguilla’s successful cricketers on the national front, in the Leeward Islands, and a promising player in county cricket in England, is the recipient of US$800 from LIME Anguilla for the purchase of needed playing gear.

“We are very happy to be yet again sponsoring the cricket pursuits of one of our limelight cricketers, fast-bowler, Kelbert Walters,” Mark Romney, LIME Anguilla’s General Manager, told reporters on Tuesday this week. “He has played for Anguilla and has represented the Leeward Islands, and there is also the possibility of him gaining a contract with one of the counties in the United Kingdom.”

Mr. Romney said the telecommunications company was excited to be part of Walters’ ongoing development. “Looking at him we notice that, physically, he has certainly beefed up in terms of making sure that he has that fiery pace … that will no doubt intimidate many batsmen,” Romney said. “At the same time, he is hoping that he is recognised as a true all rounder because he is pretty good also with his bat. No doubt his all round capability will lend possibilities of winning to any team.”

In addition to the monetary donation, Walters was presented with a BlackBerry phone by LIME Anguilla.

The Leeward Islands Cricket Tournament, in which Walters will represent Anguilla, will start on September 23. If he performs well, he is expected to play in the West Indies Cricket Board Tournament which will commence in Guyana on October 15.

“I am looking forward to a good performance,” he stated, stressing that he was doing everything to remain fit for play. He expressed gratitude to LIME Anguilla for its financial assistance and moral support.

Later on, Walters is expected to be awarded a contract by Hampshire Cricket County to play in the United Kingdom.
