| Cap Juluca’s Villa Manager, Gwendolyn Fleming, and Public Area Supervisor, Alma Gumbs, are the two latest Julucans to benefit from the Resort’s Staff Exchange Programme with Curtain Bluff Resort in Antigua. Gwendolyn and Alma spent two weeks observing Curtain Bluff’s Housekeeping Operations and sharing Cap Juluca’s operating procedures. In exchange, Curtain Bluff’s Head Bartender, Carlos Harrigan, and Line Chef, Clinton Williams, were exposed to the Food and Beverage operations and standards at Cap Juluca during their internship. |
Earlier in year, Cap Juluca’s Concierge Manager, Sheila Harrigan-Davis, and Bartender, Patson Williams, spent ten days at Curtain Bluff Resort in the Rooms and Beverage Divisions while Sous Chef, Garfield Simon, and Waiter, Terry Francis, also spent ten days in training at Cap Juluca. The Staff Exchange Programme between the two luxury Caribbean properties is part of their ongoing staff training and development activities. Both Cap Juluca and Curtain Bluff are known for the emphasis that they place on training, and the long-time staff exchange partnership was re-activated by Cap Juluca’s General Manager, Gary Thulander, and Managing Director of Curtain Bluff, Rob Sherman, this year. Thulander, who notes that training has always been one of his top priorities, says that he is pleased to continue the partnership with his long-time colleague and friend, Rob Sherman. The aim, he says, is to maintain the exchange with Curtain Bluff and also to expand the programme to include other luxury properties like Four Seasons and Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. Sherman, who has been the Managing Director at Curtain Bluff for the past 25 years, says that he was pleased to continue the exchange because “Cap Juluca is one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean and a friendly competitor of Curtain Bluff for many years!” “I find giving exposure to our people is the best training any member of staff can receive. Working in a first class establishment like Cap Juluca, they will bring new fresh ideas back home and hopefully share their knowledge with the people they will be working with”, said Sherman. Thulander and Sherman are also among the sixty North America, Mexico and the Caribbean members of the Resort Committee of the American Hotel and Lodging Association, the umbrella body of the American Educational Institute. The exchange staff, Gwendolyn, Alma, Carlos and Clinton, all expressed their pleasure and appreciation for being part of the programme, noting that the exposure to a similar but different property was useful for evaluating their own standards and building friendships with their regional colleagues. |
