The Police Report for August 10-17 showed that 22 serious crimes were committed in Anguilla during that period. Of that number, were six burglaries at Stoney Ground, George Hill, Blowing Point, Cannifist and Long Ground. The stolen items included a cash register, jewelry, foodstuff and a sum of money. |
There were eight thefts at Sandy Ground, North Side, Blowing Point, Rock Farm, The Quarter, South Hill and Rey Hill. Among the stolen property were steel bars, a television frame, Blackberry phones, jewelry, a bicycle and seasoning plants. The Police reported six shooting incidents: two at South Hill; two at North Side; and one each at Stoney Ground and Brimegin. There were two reports of criminal damage at Shoal Bay and Bad Cox. Ten arrests were made during the period as follows: one male for possession of cannabis; one male for handling stolen goods; three males on suspicion of discharging a firearm; threeon suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm; one male for throwing contraband over the prison’s wall; and one male for immigration purposes. Police arrested and charged S.C. of The Valley and I.B. of North Side for causing grievous bodily harm; possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm. The arrests arose from a shooting incident at Stoney Ground on Wednesday, August 10. Both men appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday and Tuesday respectively and were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. Magistrate’s Court On August 10, Marcus Daniel of Welches, pleaded guilty of driving a vehicle when not covered by a policy of insurance. He was fined $3,500 to be paid by December 30 or two months in prison. Six cases were heard on August 12. Omari Murray of Stoney Ground and L.V., of North Side, pleaded guilty of possession of stolen property and were each fined $500 to be paid by August 26 or two months in prison. F.B. of Sandy Ground also pleaded guilty of possession of stolen property and was fined $500 to be paid by August 19 or two months in prison. Vidal Richardson of Sandy Ground, and Floyd Walters of Island Harbour, pleaded guilty of driving without due care and attention. Richardson was fined $2,500 to be paid by January 31, 201 or two months in prison and Walters $2,000 to be paid by December 31, 2011 or one month in prison. Bernadine Edwards, of Island Harbour, pleaded guilty of driving without due care and attention and was fined $1,000 to be paid by November 12, 2011 or one month in prison. On August 16, Conrad Gumbs, of Island Harbour, was found guilty of obstruction and fined $500 to be paid on that date or one month in prison. |
