Two athletes, Mr. Keron Rogers and Ms. Shinelle Proctor left Anguilla on Tuesday 23rd August to travel to Daegu, South Korea, to participate in the 2011 World Athletics Championships. The Anguillian athletes had a delayed departure due to the passage of the Tropical Storm Irene (now Hurricane Irene).

The pair will join their coach Mrs. William Proctor, Mrs. Lorna Rogers (Anguilla Amateur Athletics Federation (AAAF) President) and Mr. Emris Rogers who are already in South Korea to participate in a Congress which precedes the athletics meet. The AAAF would like to thank the International Association of Athletics Federations for providing funding for the Anguilla delegation to participate in a meet of this magnitude, and to congratulate the two athletes and wish them success in the competition.

Anguilla’s Shara Proctor will also be participating in the Championships but she will be representing Great Britain. Earlier this year, Shara jumped a personal best of 6.81m consequently taking the title of British national Long Jump champion at the AVIA UK trials. These games were held from July 29. July 31, 2011 at Alexandra Stadium – Birmingham. Her jump also qualified her to participate in the 2012 London Olympics.
