| Dr. Bonnie Richardson-Lake, Chair of the Anguilla Community Foundation and the Executive Director, Mrs. Arlene Bailey Franklin, presented scholarship awards to the 2011 recipients. Two scholarships which were awarded included: The Anguilla College Scholarship for students interested in medical services or data processing. The Mouton Scholarship is for students pursuing post secondary education in any field. |
Over 10 applications were received and reviewed. All the applicants were all excellent students seeking to further their education in the Anguilla through distance learning, or are attending colleges and universities in the Caribbean, Canada, England and the United States. The criteria for selection consisted of a blind review of the candidates’ credentials; grade transcripts; community involvement activities; references and personal statements. Miss Timarah Hodge a third year medical student at the University of West Indies, St. Augustine, and Trinidad received the Anguilla College Scholarship of $5000.00 USD. Ms. Hodge stated, “I am eternally grateful to this foundation for granting me this scholarship. It has given me the opportunity to reach one step closer to achieving my goal of becoming a Doctor.” Miss Olufunmike Banks-Devonish a third and final year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Trent University, Ontario, Canada received the Mouton Scholarship of $6,000 USD. Ms. Banks-Devonish said, “I have been working hard year after year at Trent to keep up my “A” average and I am so happy that, after applying for various scholarships for my first two years, the Community foundation has chosen me as one of their lucky recipients”. We wish the 2011 scholarship winners success in the continuation and completion of their studies. The Foundation is mindful of the cost of higher education and hope the funds provided will alleviate some of the financial stress for these hardworking students.
