On 9th May 2020 the Anguilla House of Assembly was dissolved. In my final statement as the Elected Member for District One and Leader of the Opposition, on 8th May 2020, I expressed my deepest gratitude to the people of my district who elected me. It has been one of the greatest honours of my life to serve the people of my community and the people of Anguilla.
As the sole member of Opposition, I have been able, through the work of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and parliamentary questions, to hold this government accountable to the people of Anguilla. As the sole member of Opposition, I trust that my contributions have raised the level of debate in the House of Assembly, debates that were focused on policy over politics and personalities. In the last five years I have worked diligently, and with integrity, to fight for effective consultation, inclusion and good governance in the best interest of all Anguillians. This work would not have been possible without the love and support of many Anguillians who believed in me and prayed for me, every step of the way. I am eternally grateful to you.
In the weeks ahead the people of this country will determine our fate for the next five years. This time we have an opportunity to do something new and different – to elect women and men who demonstrate true independence, women and men who are committed to the people’s work, not party loyalty. Such individuals must be guided by the One Anguilla Vision. This is the vision that will take Anguilla forward into a new era of prosperity. This vision is centred on Love, Unity, Respect, Good Governance and Equal Opportunity for ALL. It requires everyone – every single citizen and resident – to participate and work towards achieving a values-driven, economically secured, healthy and educated future for ALL our people. ONE ANGUILLA recognizes the importance of everyone – regardless of colour, creed, family, name, background or social status – to thrive, participate, and make a valued contribution to nation building.
I want to remind the people of Anguilla of the immense power that you have in this next election. You have an opportunity to shake the very foundation of politics in this country – to do away with the partisan party politics that has kept us stagnated for over 50 years! In the midst of the greatest crisis that our country faces, we can emerge with a new government of independent minded men and women who will work for and be loyal to the people. Yes, this is a future that is possible when we think outside the box and elect competent individuals – not partisan politicians. This is a time to unite under the One Anguilla vision; this is a time to ask what you can do for your country.
To the people of District One – you are my heart. You are my source of courage and strength. I am so happy to call Island Harbour my home and I am so proud to be your Representative. When I was separated from my mother at an early age, you were there for me when I needed help, and I thank God daily that He has put me in a position to be there for you. This is why I am standing again in this election in District One – you are part of me just as much as I am a part of you. With Pam Webster – District One is always first! We made political history together and we are just getting started.
I look forward to another term representing the people of District One as part of a new government. With God being my helper, I am prepared to lead our community through the challenges ahead. May God Bless You, and May God Bless Anguilla, Always!
