2017 SUNSET HOMES-SPONSORED FEMALE FOOTBALL LEAGUE ENDS SUPER STARS FC CHAMPIONS

A very exciting and entertaining 2017 Sunset Homes-sponsored female football league came to an end on Sunday July 9 with an official closing and awards presentation ceremony at the Raymond E. Guishard stadium. Present were many players and supporters from the various clubs.

This year, only four clubs competed in the league tournament. They were: Super Stars FC, Gazelles FC, Shining Stars FC and De Youngsters FC. While not competing in the tournament, Lil Soldier FC participated in the the pre-tournament activities.
League sponsor, Sunset Homes, remarked that they were delighted to be a sponsor of the 2017 female football league, and commended the Anguilla Football Association, and all the dynamic teams, for creating a memorable league.

The 2017 league champions were Superstars FC which also won Soccerama. Gazelles FC placed second followed by Shining Stars FC in third place. The Knockout Champions were De Youngsters FC.

President of the Anguilla Football Association, Mr. Raymond Guishard, remarked, “When I look at the young footballers, I can see that we have a future that we must nourish, cherish and that we must build on.” He went on to thank the young footballers for coming out and representing themselves, and noted that the Association was continuing its efforts to add to the development of football throughout the island.

Mr. Guishard also noted that in the next few weeks, the Association will be providing first-aid training to members of football clubs in Anguilla, so as to ensure there is certified First-Aid personnel on the field.
Also delivering some brief remarks, Parliamentary Secretary of Sports, Mr. Cardigan Connor, congratulated all the winners and individual award recipients on their achievements – and furthermore encouraged them to continue to do their best.

Female Technical Coordinator, Mr. Colin Johnson, also congratulated and thanked all the officials, players and coaches for their hard work.

The presentation ceremony included monetary prizes, trophies and special individual awards.
The results of the pre-tournament activities were as follows:

4 V 4 Juniors Competition:
1st place – Super Stars FC
2nd place – Shining Stars FC
3rd place – De Youngsters FC

4 V 4 Seniors Competition:
1st place – Shining Stars FC
2nd place – Super Stars FC
3rd place – De Youngsters FC

Foot Volleyball Juniors Competition:
1st place – Super Stars FC
2nd place – Shining Stars FC
3rd place – De Youngsters FC

Foot Volleyball Seniors Competition:
1st place – Shining Stars FC
2nd place – Super Stars FC
3rd place – De Youngsters FC

Beach Soccer Competition:
1st place – Super Stars FC
2nd place – De Youngsters FC
3rd place – Shining Stars FC

Backyard Olympics Competition:
1st place – Super Stars FC
2nd place – Shining Stars FC
3rd place – Lil Soldiers FC

Indoor Soccer Competition:
1st place – Super Stars FC
2nd place – Shining Stars FC
3rd place – Gazelles FC
