Customers of LIME Anguilla now have an opportunity to take advantage of its new and welcome high speed 4G LTE (Long-term Evolution) data internet service for mobile phones. The service, five times faster than before, was officially launched on Saturday night, November 14, at a reception at Ani Villas.
Recently-appointed LIME Anguilla Country Manager, Mr. Desron Bynoe, said: “Today marks another historical first for Anguilla. Just two weeks ago we celebrated our 44th Anniversary since we started operations on the island. We are so excited to be part of this significant part of LIME’s history…The freedom, speed and functionality that LIME’s 4G LTE delivers is immense. We have invested significantly to meet our commitments to deliver a world-class data and mobile experience for you, our customers.
“LTE stands for Long-term Evolution. It is a radio-access technology used to deliver superfast data speeds. LTE is a fourth generation mobile service which will enable users to access mobile data higher than speeds previously available. Downloading and streaming videos will become almost instantaneous. Upgrade to mobile 4G LTE is part of our on-going US-seven million dollars investment across Anguilla under the capital investment programme…LTE network uses the North American Standard 700 megahertz band – the same band used by major carriers in the United States. We are also the only mobile network in Anguilla to deliver the most population coverage indoors and outdoors. LIME’s 4G provides access to the fastest mobile data in the country. Download speeds can reach up to 35 megs per second.”
Prior to his appointment in Anguilla, Mr. Bynoe served as LIME’s Country Manager of Columbus Communications Ltd. in his native St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He holds certification in Economics, Accounting and Business Administration from Cambridge University and has been in the telecommunications industry for twelve years.
Ms. Jade Reymond, LIME Anguilla’s Marketing and Communications Manager, said the network was installed by Ericson and covers ninety percent of the island. “This has resulted in high capacity and enhances your mobile data services,” she stated. “The increased capacity has enabled new and better services to our customers. You can now enjoy download speeds over five times faster than were available previously, enabling downloading of a musical track in three seconds and movies in forty seconds.”
Ms. Reymond explained that in order for customers to have access to the new 4G LTE service they would need: a LTE card to replace their existing card; a LTE capable smart phone; and a LTE date plan.
The Marketing and Communications Manager also spoke about a number of smart phones as part of the package. These include the 4G IPhone 6 (16GB reduced to $1189; the iPhone 6 plus 16GB reduced to $1376); and the Sony Xpedia E4G.
Meanwhile, three phones were raffled during the launch ceremony. The winners were Mrs. Lilly Moses, Ms. Jermel Reese and Mr. Ron Webster.
