Punta Cana – Dominican Republic; Parliamentary Secretary Tourism and Sports, Hon. Haydn Hughes returns from the just concluded HVS Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference and Operations Summit. This summit was held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana. The conference which was held on the 7th and 8th of November brought together Investors from the United States, Dominican Republic, Latin America and China, Hotel Operators, Airline Companies and Bankers. Hon. Hughes, a member of the HVS Caribbean Tourism Task force was among a panel that spoke to day one.
The panel discussion was on OPPORTUNITIES IN THE REGION and was moderated by Mr. Gary Brough, Managing Director of KPMG TCI. The panel was made up of Mr. Bryan Ten Broek, SVP Resort Sales & Business Development for Interval International, Mr. Mark Purcell, Vice President, Managed Development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Salim Danji, Executive Vice President, Solid Rock Advisors and Tim Peck, Chairman of OBM International.

The opening hour’s panel discussion spoke to Hotel Market Trends by a number of global professionals. Panel discussions over the two day period included outlook on Hospitality, The Caribbean as an Asset class-View from the Capital providers, All-Inclusive Hotels-Reasons for their success, Emerging Source Markets and new investors-The Paradigm shift, The developers perspective-Financing projects in the region: sources, structures and stipulations, How do investors get deals done in the region-closing the deal: what does it take? Up in the Air: The question of airlift in the Caribbean, Legally speaking-discussing the major legal issues facing Government, developers, investors and operators in the region and Chinas interest in the Caribbean Hospitality and Tourism Sectors.
Mr. Hughes spoke of his vision of expanded airlift, expanding and developing the tourism plant, free wifi throughout the island and used to opportunity to speak to numerous potential investors.
“After my presentation, I had the opportunity to speak with a number of players in the Hospitality industry. This is my third HCS Investment Conference and each time, we have been able to encourage investment in Anguilla and I am confident that this one will be no different.”
This year’s conference was the first that Mr. Perin Bradley did not attend. Miss Marisa Harding-Hodge recently became Trade and Investment officer in the Ministry of Tourism when Mr. Bradley was promoted.
