Island Harbour Beach will be the venue of a big cultural show on Tuesday evening, August 7, commencing at 6.30 following the A-class boat race there. It will be the Miss Summer Swim Suit Pageant in which six young ladies will be participating.
“Last year, the Summer Swim Suit Pageant was part of the Miss Anguilla Pageant – and this year we decided to do it as a stand-alone event,” Gecheal Richardson, a member of the organising committee, explained.
“Because it is a swim suit event, related to the sea, we thought what beter place to stage it than at beautiful Island Harbour. It will be set up like Festival Del Mar was done, and everything else associated with that. All the girls will be wearing will be related to beach wear.”
Ms Richardson said that the participants would be making three appearances. The first will be an introductory speech; the second, beach wear featuring an outfit appearance in a whole bath suit piece; and the third, one of their own creations.
“The idea is to be very creative in how they tie their wraps to resemble evening wear,” Ms Richardson further said. “We have moved to theIslandHarboursite to create a different atmosphere for the show. It is going to be beautiful, trust me. Because it was part of the Miss Anguilla Pageant, there was not much in terms of awareness of this particular show, but it is a show to be reckoned with, and to prepare the participants to emerge as contestants for the Miss Anguilla Pageant later on if they so desire.”
The competing young ladies appeared at a cocktail reception at the Anguilla Great House on Tuesday evening. It was to give them an opportunity to select the numbers governing their appearances on stage and to sign the required performing contracts.
The names of the competing young ladies are Junester Connor, Marynka Puan, Limesha Richardson, Jamesha Hodge, Shakeema Carty and Delrina LaRocque.
They appeared along with the reigning Miss Summer Swim Suit 2011, Morihinzi Richardson, who is also a contestant in the Miss Anguilla Pageant.
